Employee Spotlight: Meet John

John has been a Paycom service specialist since September 2016. Recently, I reached out and asked him to share his story.

 Describe what you do.

I am a Paycom services specialist. My goal here is to ensure that clients are educated in using our applications and maximizing the system’s potential. I work with clients every single day, helping them resolve any questions they may have. I help clients become Paycom pros so that they can spend their time tending to more important matters. I have the ability to build confidence in our clients and impact the way they tend to their daily tasks. The ability to improve relationships with clients over time makes the job worthwhile.

What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?

It is best to keep an open mind at Paycom, because we are a growing company and things are changing very quickly. It is challenging here, but it is also rewarding when you are able to accomplish your goals and make a difference in someone’s day. This is a fast-paced environment, so it is best to keep and stay motivated.

What’s the one word you would choose to describe Paycom, and why?

“Dedicated.” Being “all in” will definitely help you succeed, because you ultimately control how far you want to go here.

Employee Spotlight: Meet JohnWhat is your greatest accomplishment at Paycom?

My greatest accomplishment is winning MVP for my training class. For the class to recognize me as someone who they can come to and help them succeed is a great feeling. I appreciate them for pushing me further.

What makes you proud to work at Paycom?

I am proud to work with all the people here. I have friends who have become family, and we all look out for each other. I definitely enjoy working for this company and learning how the corporate world works. It has broadened my knowledge for business and has taught me more than just payroll, but all the other aspects of human capital management.

Where has been your favorite place to travel, and why?

My favorite place recently has been Seattle. The place has beaches, lakes, forests and a city skyline. It is the best of the West Coast and East Coast brought together, and the food is amazing. I also have friends out there that I can visit and enjoy some amazing seafood near the Pike Place Market.

Who would play you in a movie about your life? Why?

I would hope that Jackie Chan could play me in a movie, because he is quite a character. His facial expressions are over-the-top and I feel that I do the same here around work and friends. I am not sure about all of those martial-arts moves, but as far as anything else, it would be on par.

If you could pick anyone in the world to have lunch with, who would it be and why?

I would like to have lunch with Anthony Bourdain. He has been a food idol of mine and he loves Vietnam, so why not let the guy show me around my parents’ native country? I would love to sit down with him and talk about his life and why he loves our cuisine so much. I appreciate that he is open-minded to so many cultures and the food associated with them.
